A Note from the Author

It’s a magical experience to watch a story unfold as I write it. To be surprised at what a character will say or do, sometimes making me laugh out loud, or cry. To respectfully acknowledge that I can’t make a character do something that is out of character. To abandon a chapter because it’s not as fun as it should be, and start over, exploring another tributary of imagination. A story has a flow, and it’s best to go with it. My role is to follow it all the way to the ocean.

When I sit down to write my novels, I instruct Big Casey to take a break, step aside, and let Little Casey lead. Little Casey has a gift for navigating story-rivers. With precious naivete, he brings an unfettered imagination, passion, and joy to storytelling.

I hope you feel this as you read my stories, and that it brings as much joy to you as it has to me.
